When I took Zettelkasten coaching with Sascha Fast, he recommended the Knowledge Flower technique to deepen our thinking about a topic and the Idea Compass technique to link it to other notes in a meaningful way.
While they are great techniques, I frankly found them to be way above my level.
For beginners (such as myself :)), I’d rather suggest Nick Milo’s very simple and straight-forward techniques, the “this is interesting, because…” prompt for thinking about a topic (and not just collecting it) and the “this reminds of…” prompt for linking.
In summary and in comparison:
For deepening our thinking:
- “this is interesting, because…”
- Knowledge Flower
For enriching our net of linked notes:
- “this reminds me of…”
- Idea Compass
For deepening our thinking | For enriching our net of linked notes | |
---|---|---|
for beginners | ”this is interesting, because…" | "this reminds me of…“ |
for intermediates | Knowledge Flower | Idea Compass |
