I wonder if Péter Magyar is our Katniss Everdeen? (And if we’ll ever know.)
In the book series Hunger Games, a revolution against an oppressive regime was ready for years if not decades, waiting for the perfect Hunger Games winner to emerge who can be the public face of the revolution.
Given the quickness of how the TISZA movement rose behind Péter Magyar (See: 3f1-the-timeline-of-the-rise-of-peter-magyar-in-2024-hungary), including not just “foot soldiers” but a whole financial background and upper management, I must wonder if a revolution was ready and just waiting for a face that can bring the foot soldiers on board.

- I really must learn more about the change (the end of communism) in 1989. I only know its halmarks - like the “ruszkik haza” (Russians go home) and товарищи, конец (comrades, it’s the end) slogans, the ceremonial reburial of 1956 martyrs, and of course the first opening of the Iron Curtain (Vasfüggöny) near my hometown. (The fall of the Berlin Wall only followed.) But it had a huge political work behind it, and I frankly have no idea about it.

- Harari wrote in Sapiens that alternate histories only sound absurd if we don’t really give much thought to the timeline we live in. One of the examples he brings is what was the chance of an obscure Jewish sect becoming a world-dominating religion for thousands of years?
