Scott Scheper, who markets himself as a Zettelkasten guru, suggests to build the UID numbering system of your notes collection based on the Outline of Academic Disciplines.
This idea of using pre-set categories, is contrary to Zettelkasten principles, and it
- a) destroys the concept if applied consistently later on, or
- b) brings unnecessary confusion to the project
It was really confusing for me, when I tried to start from there, but apply the Zettelkasten principle of filing a new idea not in a category where it fits but next to a card to that it’s most similar to.
So I strongly suggest not to start there, but rather check out Bob Doto’s guide of starting from card 1 being a niche idea: 1b-the-first-card-of-a-zettelkasten-is-usually-niche

- How the oppositional nature of Scott Scheper’s ANTI-net concept represents Scott’s personality and illustrates perfectly why I have a beef with him.
- Similar to Scott’s fall from grace in my eyes is how I’m still kinda obsessed with the Mormon Church (LDS Church) after they tried to recruit me while I was grieving my mother
