The suburban area where we grew up with my sister was like a little village, and not by accident.

The area was near the train line, and after World War II, it was a barren land with bomb craters. So farmer families who wanted to move to the city for a factory job was able to buy land for cheap.

A lot of young families moved in, but they didn’t fully leave the rural culture behind. Every garden had veggie patches and tiny orchards, and small animals (chickens, rabbits) until it was banned (and even a bit longer tbh), people were always bartering something. Children like us grew up on the safe and quiet streets and were welcome in every home.
