My dad with his sister and me with my sister had some similarities in our childhood circumstances.
My dad and aunt grew up in a gated community created near / on the line of the Iron Curtain. 3f1a1-growing-up-behind-the-iron-curtain-created-a-gated-community-and-fond-memories-for-my-dad
Me and my sister (and also my mom in her teen years) grew up in a “small village” in the suburbia of Sopron, created on bomb craters near the train line. 3f1a1a-the-suburbia-where-i-grew-up-was-like-a-little-village-created-by-farmer-families-transforming-bomb-craters
Both these areas were connected to World War II and the following Cold War era. But their unique characteristics created a close-knit community, and happy childhoods with fond memories.

- Good can be born from bad - I hate the “everything happens for a reason” argument. In this case ie. did World War II happen and was the city of Sopron bombed so my grandparents and fellow young farmer families could buy cheap land, create a tiny village and provide us a memory-rich childhood? I don’t think so.
