Ibolya Oláh performing her iconic song Magyarország (Hungary) on the steps of the Parliament on inauguration day had a multi-layered symbolism and significance.
- The song is a wholesome patriotic song, written by Ibolya Oláh
- She is a Romani self-made musician, who grew up as state-fostered child. She’s also a lesbian.
- She became so disheartened by the state’s increasingly abhorrent treatment of Romani people, gender-, sexual- and other minorities, state-fostered children, opposition, civil groups, etc, and the misappropriation of her song, that she swore never to perform it again. She didn’t perform it in years.
